Wizkid wins 2017 BET Awards Best International Act

Congratulations Starboy!!!

BET has just announced Wizkid as Winner of the Best International Act – Africa Award in a special ceremony held in Los Angeles, beating off stiff competition from Davido, Mr Eazi, Tekno, Stonebwoy, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo and AKA. It’s the Starboy’s 2nd win in this category, first taking home the award (alongside Sarkodie) back in 2012.

Nasty C had initially been accidentally announced as winner sometime last week, but BET quickly apologized for the “glitch”. Gotta admit they finally got it right!

Wizkid, however, wasn’t there to collect his award. More to follow…

Internet pioneer Robert Taylor dies

One of the founding fathers of the internet, Robert Taylor, has died. While working at the Pentagon in the 1960s, he instigated the creation of Arpanet – a computer network that initially linked together four US research centres, and later evolved into the internet. At Xerox, he later oversaw the first computer with desktop-inspired icons and a word processor that formed the basis of Microsoft Word. Mr Taylor died at home aged 85. His family told the Los Angeles Times that he had suffered from Parkinson’s disease among other ailments. Mr Taylor studied psychology at university, but worked as an engineer at several aircraft companies and Nasa before joining the US Department of Defense’s Advanced Research Project Agency (Arpa) in 1965. At the time, Arpa funded most of the country’s computer systems research. MESSAGE ON THE STATE OF THE NATION  BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC, NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO, ON THE OCCASION OF THE STATE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT ON  TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2017. Mr. Speaker, It is good to be back here again in this Chamber, where I spent some 12 memorable years as a Member of Parliament. I recollect with nostalgia the vigorous debates of my days here as a Minority MP, and I have very fond memories of being on the Majority side also. I can see some old faces from my first days here – like the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Hon. Alban Bagbin, whom I came to meet in the House in 1997, and who became a good friend of mine; and Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader, with whom I entered Parliament on the same side, at the same time.
